Justice in Action Presents "Now is the Time to Take Action"
Canisius College Justice in Action presents "Now is the Time to Take Action," a lecture by social activist Dolores Huerta on Thursday, November 19, 2009 at 3:30 p.m in the Grupp Fireside Lounge. The lecture is free and open to all.

Dolores Huerta, along with Cesar E. Chavez, co-founded the National Farm Workers Association, now known as the United Farm Workers Union. She has organized the Agricultural Workers Association, which became the Agricultural Workers Organizing Committee and later merged with the National Farm Workers Association. She directed the UFW's national grape boycott, resulting in a three-year collective bargaining agreement with the grape growers.

Huerta established the first health and pension plans for farm workers, and worked to eliminate toxic pesticides that threaten farm workers, consumers and the environment. She founded the Dolores Huerta Foundation to create grassroots communities and teach organizing
and to "inspire and motivate people to organize sustainable communities to attain social justice."

The Canisius College Justice in Action group is comprised of students, faculty, staff and administrators who work to coordinate, publicize, and develop initiatives that educate and promote awareness about justice issues.

For more information, please contact Sr. Pat Brady at Ext. 2177. This lecture is co-sponsored by the Office of Student Affairs, the Institute for the Global Study of Religion, Campus Ministry, and the Justice Committee of the Undergraduate Student Association.

We assist our community partners with various projects and tasks at meal programs, food banks, shelters, agencies that work with refugees, senior citizens, Habitat for Humanity and more.

Canisius Community Day is a popular program among Canisius students, faculty/staff and alumni. Many student organizations, athletic teams, classes have long made Community Day a tradition.

Canisius Community Days are a celebration. They are acts of gratitude for one another, for our student organizations, for our school, for our families and for God! We come together to celebrate the gifts of our lives
as members of the Canisius College Community in the Spirit of Jesus and that of the Jesuits. Our work and service to and for others is done in the spirit of Ad maiorem Dei gloriam -For the Greater Glory of God.

Two other community days are scheduled for 2009-10
